Coming out
From YGSWiki
General Information:
Coming out can be a frightening experience for GLBT youth, but it can also be the best experience of your life. Nobody can say when you are are or arnt ready. In fact, some places even have laws that protect others from outing you against you will! You're never really alone when you say to someone "Hey, I'm gay."
There are many different way to come out, and no one way is right or wrong. Some will want to tell the world as quickly as they possibly can, and some will want to stay closeted as long as they can, and some don't care whatsoever who does and doesn't know.
It's generally a good idea when planning to come out to go through mentally, every scenario that could occur, from best- to worst-case, so as to better prepare yourself for what really does occur. Also, it helps to think of good responses to any questions people could have, as devastating or as strange as some of them might be.
Think your ready to come out? Think about the situation your in. Are your peers openly homophobic? Is there a support centre or group you can go to for advice? Are you at risk of becoming homeless if your parents find out? Ultimately, the choice of when to come out is your and yours alone.
Good Luck!
